Something about Comenius assistantship

I must say that this is not my first long time advenure abroad. Few years ago I was Erasmus exchange student. That was unforgettable experience for me and it will always have a big and special place in my life. Well, after some time, when I was already settled back home, I discovered this option about Comenius Assistantship and I was interested from the first second. I read that this is an opportunity for future teachers and professors, who can go abroad an become assistants in schools. I didn't think too much and I grab the opportunity. Well, first of all you need to do your best and write application where you explain why should they choose you, what will you "bring to the school" and so on. These year only 8 person from my country were lucky enough to be chosen for Comenius assistants. So I don't take this for granted, but with pride.
My opinion is that at some point everybody should try some kind of student exchange or assistantship abroad. There is no better place to learn new things and to get some life and professional experiences. Especially because you need to find your way in foreign environment, only with the use of foreign language. I think that this was something that I simply had to do. And I must say for now, that I don't regret at all.

Like I said, Action Assistant is intended for future teachers/professors of any subject. It is for candidates who have completed at least two years study program for the teaching profession and future teachers who have already completed their studies and have not been regularly employed as a teacher. Comenius asistant are not full-time teachers, but they help in teaching and other school activities (recommended time is around 12 to 16 teaching units / hours of school activity per week).

So before I really begin with writting about my adventure, let me just tell you what are my main dutties as a Comenius assistant:

  • To help with the classroom teaching, to support group and project work of pupils /students,
  •  improve students' comprehension and expression in a foreign language,
  •  teaching the mother language,
  • support pupils with special needs,
  • providing information on the assistant's country,
  • to introduce and promote the European dimension in the host school.

For those who wants to get more informations about assistanship, you can read it on website of your home National agency.

Opening day of my blog!

Hello, everybody!

Welcome to my blog. Here you will be able to see how my life of Comenius assistant looks like. I opened this blog, because I think that it's a good idea to share my memories, adventures, tips and other events from this year as a Comenius assistant in Berlin, with others. Maybe it will be helpful for somebody, who still can't decide if this assistanship is a good idea or not. Let me just say... don't hesitate! If you're future professor or a teacher and you want to learn something knew, if you want to get some experiences and at the same time you have a chance to get mora familiar with culture, people and the country itself, than this is a right thing for you. Those chances don't fall from the sky everyday.

And I must to say, that this blog is not just for Comenius assistants. Everybody is welcome to read it, cause there are gonna be some other regular interesting topics as well.

So, welcome again and I hope this blog will be enjoyable and even helpful to you.

P.S - I'm sorry if you will notice some mistakes in my texts, but maybe you noticed that I'm not an English native speaker. I chose English cause I want to write this blog for general public and all of the present/future Comenius assistants from different countries as well. Thank you for understanding.
